Arthur's Seat, the core of an extinct volcano rises 251m above sea level. From the top there are superb views of the Firth of Forth. The easiest walk up to the summit is from the car park beside Dunsapie Loch. Since the late 1940s Edinburgh has played host to the International Festival and the Festival fringe. This has grown over the years and now includes the Military Tattoo, the Film Festival, the Book Festival, the Jazz and Blues festival and the Mela. Combined these events are known as 'the Festival' covering a huge range of performance styles and venues and are probably the largest and most prestigious arts festivals in the world.
